fabric & fiber art
A little about my art.......
Techniques vary but most of my fabric art pieces have been rough appliqued, hand painted, free motion machine stitched, beaded, or hand stitched. I sometimes use recycled tea bag papers and dryer sheets, tulles, and organzas....... or whatever else I may find to complete the look and effects I want in the piece .
The process of creating my thread paintings starts by using digital photos, manipulating and enlarging them, then printing the photo onto high quality cotton or linen fabric. I then use the sewing machine needle as my paint brush and free motion stitch the main image filling in or "painting" all areas. Background areas are filled in with a decorative quilting design that is also free motion stitched.
Thread paintings can take many hours and many, many different shades of threads.
Most of my fabric art is framed without glass or plexi to allow the stitching and textures to be seen. Pieces can be lightly dusted off with a dry or damp cloth. I do not recommend displaying them in direct sunlight as the fabrics and fibers may fade over time.
Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in purchasing or would like more information about my art......I'm always happy to answer any questions.
I am available on commission to help create an original fabric art piece for your home, office, or corporate setting.
